Farewell to the Moon

(Music and lyrics: Jesús Díez García)

Shining in heaven,

pure as the light in the morning...

Bless us with your grace.

Where is the mirror?

Where the sword? Where the jewel?

Oh, watch my fury burn...

Sister of mine... Have no fear...

Just let me bid you goodbye...

You have no right over these lands.

Abandon my sanctuary.

Leave these meadows quiet and pure.

You are restless, reckless, furious

and here peace is all around.

Distant shores singing my last poem...

Say farewell to the moon.

Her silvery shine flickers on the ocean...

Amaterasu hides;

the world descends into utter darkness.

Ama no iwato,

shield me from that horrid monster,

conceal me in safety.

I'll thrive or wither...

Memories of joy come to my mind;

a distant fading bliss...

Mirth from outside fills the cave.

What could be this lightless joy?

Dancing spirits gladly laughing,

eight hundred shades cheer for her:

A new goddess shall arise!

Curious, eager, her eyes wander.

Come now closer, move the rock.

The mirror is on the tree awaiting (her).

Withering lands and dreams

we wearily roamed upon your departure.

Amaterasu, rise!

Defeat despair, release your light!

Dance on the field...

Sing all together as friends...

Let this new dawn come to us;

we'll receive the stars with joy.

I felt my time was gone

and only tears remained...

Oh, the reflection so bright

has returned my hopes and dreams.

Withering lands and dreams

we wearily roamed upon your departure.

Amaterasu, rise!

Defeat despair, release your light!

Amaterasu, shine!

Your children miss your warmth...
